Corrections

Every correction to a published fact, figure, citation or structured-data claim, newest first. The standard is in the editorial policy.
  1. Service pages, City pages

Was: The structured data on every service and city page named Stumptown Painters as the provider of the painting service.

Now: The provider property was removed from the Service structured data on those pages. The schema describes the work and the area served, and makes no license or provider claim.

  2. Homepage

Was: The homepage guide teasers carried price figures that contradicted the cost guide: $2.50 to $4.50 per sq ft, $350 to $700 for a bedroom, $4,000 to $8,500 for an interior, and $4,000 to $5,500 for a one-story exterior.

Now: Every price on the homepage is read from the same figures the cost guide publishes, so the two cannot disagree.

  3. Painting cost guide, Painting a pre-1978 home, How to choose a painter

Was: Three guides told Oregon readers to ask for an EPA "NAT-" firm certification number and cited an out-of-date federal fine figure. The pre-1978 guide also said testing never exempts a surface.

Now: Oregon and Washington run their own lead-safe renovation programs, so the guides now name the right credential: a CCB Lead-Based Paint Renovation license in Oregon, Washington state certification in Clark County. The fine figure was removed, and the FAQ now says testing by a certified inspector or renovator can show a surface is lead-free.

  4. Best time to paint an exterior

Was: The month-by-month Portland weather table did not rest on a named dataset.

Now: The table uses NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 climate normals for Portland International Airport, rounded, and says so.

Sources for the corrected claims

  1. Specialty Licenses and Certifications: Lead-Based Paint Renovation (LBPR) Contractor License (Oregon Construction Contractors Board)

That Oregon administers the lead-safe renovation rule itself, so a painter disturbing paint on a pre-1978 Oregon home needs a CCB Lead-Based Paint Renovation license in addition to a CCB contractor license.

    Checked 2026-10-07.

  2. Lead-Based Paint Program: Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) (Washington State Department of Commerce)

That Washington runs its own RRP certification, which is what applies to pre-1978 homes in Vancouver and Clark County.

    Checked 2026-10-07.

  3. 40 CFR Part 745, Subpart E: Residential Property Renovation (the RRP rule) (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (via eCFR))

The federal lead-safe work rule for paid renovation, repair and painting that disturbs paint in housing built before 1978, including the work practices it prohibits, such as open-flame burning and power sanding without HEPA exhaust control.

    Checked 2026-10-07.

  4. U.S. Climate Normals 1991-2020, Portland International Airport (USW00024229) (NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Monthly and annual/seasonal normals). Dataset.

Portland annual rainfall (about 37 inches), the number of days with measurable rain (about 157 a year), and the month-by-month temperature and rain figures behind the exterior painting season.

Note: Measured at the airport. Hillside, east-county and river-adjacent homes run somewhat cooler and wetter.
